Macaroni Monthly

Crafting Holiday Bow Tie Wreaths

By Jennifer Thompson, Publisher Macaroni Kid Attleboro - Mansfield - Taunton December 13, 2020

I thought it would be fun to introduce a monthly craft article to my newsletter! The kids and I came up with “Macaroni Monthly” as a tag line and it just snowballed from there! Macaroni themed crafts it shall be! Here is December’s Macaroni Monthly, Bow Tie Holiday Wreaths! My goal is to make the Macaroni Monthly even bigger by including recipes, facts and more! Keep your eye out for January’s edition!

Bow Tie Holiday Wreaths

Supply List:

  • Cardstock (we used a manila folder-it should be heavier than paper to hold the weight of the macaroni)
  • Pencil
  • Bowl and Cup (to trace circles—freehand totally OK, too!)
  • Bow Tie Macaroni
  • Green Crayon/Marker
  • Green & Red Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Glue (the liquid kind)
  • Scissors

1. Place the bowl upside down on the cardstock & trace with pencil. Repeat with cup in the center of circle.

2. Adults: Using Scissors or pencil, poke a hole in the center of the smaller circle and then proceed to cut out the entire center circle. You may also want to add a hole at the top of the wreath to tie a string for hanging!

3. Time to color your wreath base green

4. Grab your glue and start gluing bowties down onto your wreath! We found it helpful to put a lot of glue down and then stick on the macaroni. There is no right or wrong way to add the bow ties! Add just a few or pile them on. Just make sure you are using enough glue to secure the pasta securely!

5. Let it dry! We used a blow dryer to help speed the drying process.

6. Once totally dry- its time to paint! I made the mistake of adding red paint to the kids palettes. I recommend starting with just green to avoid mixing of colors (hehehe). I suggest putting aside a few bow ties and having your child paint them red and gluing them on as accents once the green paint dries!

7. Let dry!

8. Time to add a string to your wreath using the hole you created in step 1.

Now you are ready to proudly display your December Macaroni Monthly!
